Ray Brooks had an influence on the AOA for nearly fifty years. He officiated the IHSA state finals in basketball in 1967, 1968 and in 1973. Ray served the AOA as its vice-president of the basketball division in 1969 and 1970, and during the 1980’s was the association’s basketball rules interpreter. Brooks officiated the IHSA state championship game in football in 1974, 1980 and 1982. Ray was a 1999 inductee into the Illinois Basketball Association Hall of Fame. Even after his officiating days were completed, Ray enjoyed being actively involved in the association, meeting new officials, and continuing his relationships with veteran officials.
