Basketball - Mentor Program
Here's what officials who've completed the Mentor Program are saying about their experience :
"I thought the mentor program was a great program and it helped me quite a bit, especially that this was my first year doing high school basketball."
"Thanks for having this program in place, it enabled me to get settled in quickly and gave me the confidence to get better."
"I thought it was very helpful and I had a great mentor in Ramon Tudela. Thanks again for running this program. It has helped my confidence level of calling games."
"It was helpful. It provided a way to meet and work with veterans, and gain insight on rule application in game situations. It held me responsible for continuing to develop my skills throughout the season."
"I just wanted to thank you for the mentor program. John Shalanko has been my mentor and has been great in getting me games and introducing me to assignors."
You too can participate in the program that can help start a successful basketball officiating career.
The Mentor Program is a voluntary program designed for new officials. During pre-season meetings in the fall, motivated new officials will be paired with experienced officials to help guide and develop all aspects of basketball officiating. For the next two seasons, the senior official will help make contacts with assignment chairmen and other officials, discuss rules and mechanics, build schedules and critique on-court performance.
If you are interested, plan on attending the AOA Basketball division pre-season meetings starting in October and sign up with the one of the Mentor Program Coordinators.
